Tales of a Single Lady

Weird dude

Dude just went on and on…
Saying all sorts of unnecessary things
He must have seen the empty seats behind but still chose to sit beside me, for this long ride
But that night, I was not in the mood for chatting with strangers
I had been out all day… 7am- 9pm
I was tired and it was very obvious.
My eyes were red, I had little energy, plus I was in a reflective mood
But Dude won’t stop…
So I picked up my dual-sim phone and began to send impromptu text messages to friends ‘Just saying hi’.
I thought, ‘maybe he’d leave me alone if he saw that I was busy’
I couldn’t pay attention to the conversation (like there was any).
I was answering him with ‘yes’, ‘no’ and ‘huh’
Finally, he looked at me and said in a thick Yoruba accent (the type I detest) “It seems you are busy, pinging”
‘What!’ I thought.
I gave him my world class ‘are you for real?’ look
And he repeated confidently saying, ‘you are pinging se?”
‘M-e-h-n Duuudddde’, how can I be pinging with my ‘awoof 2k Etisalat phone’? It’s obvious that this isn’t a blackberry ke
Then I replied in my Paris Hilton voice, “No! I am not pinging’ and he replied, “Oh! I thought you were pinging’
‘Christ!’ I vehemently rolled my big eyeballs, rested my head on the seat and thoughtsaid…
Just leave me the heck alone!

Tales of Single Lady

AK 47                                                            Check

Cupid Arrow proof                                        Check

‘Good times memory reminder’ stopper         Check

I’m off to Area…
To waylay the culprit that stole my heart
I’m tired of having a hole in my chest

Many Hes have said that I am heartless
Well of course ‘I am heartless’.  D’oh
Because someone stole ‘it’ away
He’s some fine, intelligent thief... Ole.
Who turned loco…

Nah… this is not a love story

We don’t have a thing anymore
But he has refused to give it back
He probably took it as a souvenir...
Can you imagine? After piecesing it o

But I am not going to let him to continue to own it
I am going to snatch my heart back
And I am going to move on…

I might ‘cap’ him in the process *licking my AK47* Not sure yet
Wish me luck.  Pray for him though…

Adios.

Esther’s Memoirs: #Tales of a single a lady

Baba Olowo and his fine son

Before me were bottles of expensive drinks
I read the labels. They had Rozay, Hennessy, Moet…
In short the table was filled with all the drinks our naija music acts have sang about
I had never seen them before except on our music videos
Once I actually thought Rozay was a car *lolz*
“What can I offer you” he asked interrupting my thoughts
His fresh face moved symmetrically with his mouth
It was a smooth as a baby’s butt (his face)
He looked money, he smelt money…*Chai* Clean old man
I didn’t want to be rude by saying ‘No’
“erm..erm…” I was confused
Then I remembered the rich britico returnees I used to work for
Whenever someone asked what they wanted, they would say “coffee please”
“Coffee please” I replied (mimicking), with a fake smile on my face
He gave me a long weird look and said “Coffee it is then”.  I wonder what was running through his mind
He motioned to the waiter who was standing not too far away- waiting in attendance
The waiter asked “ma’am how do you like your coffee, strong?”
*Ye, wahala wa o* Now I am in jeopardy
I started shaking on the inside… *Se coffee get surname again ni?*
Well I finally responded “Erm…weak …please” cos I thought strong sounded kinda hard, so erm strong drink is not my thing.  I could handle weak.
“Weak please”, I repeated
The waiter almost busted out in laughter but he quickly cautioned himself. He covered his mouth and walked away briskly.   He turned his head and glanced at me
‘Mscheww, nonsense boy boy’, I abused him in my mind.

Baba Olowo looked at me intently and then burst into an hysterical laughter
I shifted uneasily in my chair
He looked at me again and said “You know what? I like you. I like your innocence and you’re quite a funny person”
“Thank you Sir” I said with my magical girly voice *It never disappoints*
And I thought, ‘Just gimme the contract’

“Dad” an angelic male voice interrupted us.  It had a foreign accent to it
I looked to my right and before me was a creature like no other
Sheesh!  Did he escape from the cover of GQ?
Now I get the revelation of how much of a fine artist God is!
He looked at me as he walked towards his father
*Jeez! He looks so familiar - He looks like my husband!*
And nope! I didn’t stare at him, its unlady like se?  (Nah nah).  I just looked right through him; I could see his handsome internal organs (lol)
‘Son” his father said excitedly, “come, come meet a fine intelligent young lady, Esther”
He smiled at me and said “Hi”. My heart almost stopped *Jeez, he sounds like my husband too!*
I gave back my world’s best smile and nodded gently
I switched on my lady mode and batted my eyelids twice like Barbie.
He went further to stretch his hands and gave me the warmest hand shake *shudders*
His hands were softer than mine…
I put on my blush, formed shyness and made sure my eyes shone
*I grinned inside…there were lots on my mind*
*Sighs* I thought to myself, “I am not just nabbing this contract, I am also leaving here with a Boris Kodjoe look like” *Oshe!*

Esther's Memoirs

#Tales of a single lady

Please don't mind the little boy's language, he's a spoilt brat. (Lolz)

He stood before me saying all sorts…
He stared at me with the same sexy eyes that pierced my soul whenever he looked at me a few years back
Sharks! He was looking so good…still dark ... now shiny… plus a new status quo.  He appears better, now famous and with more money
He gave his usual hot smile that melted my heart *kai*

‘But has the man changed?’ I thought. I really can’t say. I have not seen him in a while

The words that came out of his mouth were sweet and promising
He spoke of how I am so different *Huh Huh?*
How he would love to be with me- again
He spoke words that I would’ve loved to hear 4 years ago when I was hopelessly, stupidly and helplessly in love with him
I would have jumped to the offer, melted in his arms and said “YES!”
He went on and on…
I had a naughty smirk on and thought “Thank God I paid more attention this morning”
Me was clad in a badht skirt suit that gave me the Beyonce look
I put my right hand on my waist and swung my hips to the left shakira-ly
*Its real dude! Hips don’t lie, and this one tells the truth - that I am hotter!*

I cut him short and said “Dude, it’s too late. You had your chance and you blew it. You know how much I loved you irrespective of how you were. But you treated me like crap. You even said you didn’t love me…We’ve not seen in a while and here you are again trying to bump into my life…”

He began to say something and I cut him short

I waved my arm like the queen of England *Oh! Long live the Queen*

“Sorry, I have an appointment at 3pm. I seriously need to go. Call me”, I said as I turned briskly and cat walked away.  I mean, directly away so he could have a clear view of my grown behind.     I walked carefully, stretching my fair/sexy/not too thick/straight and smooth legs one by one- for his view.

He thought that naïve girl would never grow into a smart, intelligent woman
He thought that plain girl would never emerge into a beautiful and attractive woman

I had the urge to look back but did not
I thought ‘there is no need to’
I already pictured the look on his face:  It would be ‘surprised, confused, and sorry’
And yes, with his mouth opened.
Bingo!
